With the third national lockdown coming into place on 4th January 2021, there was the prospect of no club runs for the imminent future and the picture all round was bleak. It’s been a difficult time for so many and running has been one of the few activities that can still take place, although with pretty strict restrictions.
As a club, we continued to support our members in these difficult times in any way possible. When you don’t meet as a club, it’s difficult to gauge how people are getting on. Interestingly, our membership continues to grow with the club now having more female members than men.
Having said that, the virtual challenges have brought people together and have been a great success. Lots of people have provided different ideas, with the February Fitness Challenge being one.
Despite the overall gloomy picture, there were some highlights. Mel completed the “running his age in miles” starting on 18th January 2021. He was supporting the Alzheimer’s Society and over £500 was raised. A great achievement.
And the month finished with the Relay over the weekend of 30/31st January 2021. This was a repeat of the previous relay where members paired up with each other and have to run a 5k sometime over the weekend. A simple idea but good fun and always well received. Just for the record, Jen C and Hanka won!
